After leaving my childhood home, I took time to contemplate the dynamics of my relationship with my father over the years. Despite the frequent comments from others about our physical resemblance, I personally never saw the similarity. Nevertheless, I acknowledged that there were indeed shared traits in our appearance.
In response to my feelings of distinctiveness from my father while recognizing the bond we share, I embarked on a creative project titled "Father and Son." The main objective was to convey the complexity of our relationship through two artistic portraits. These portraits were deliberately designed to be enigmatic, defying straightforward explanation, and aimed to emphasize the connection between us.

Using a combination of colors, makeup techniques, and intensity, the portraits captured the nuances of our shared experiences and emotions. Each element was carefully chosen to represent the intricate tapestry of our relationship—expressing emotions such as love, frustration, pride, and understanding.

Through the artistic process, I sought to express my individuality and assert that, despite our physical resemblance, I am a separate entity with my own path in life. Simultaneously, I acknowledged the significant impact my father had on shaping who I am today.
The resulting artworks acted as a visual representation of the delicate balance between distinctiveness and connection within a parent-child relationship. By leaving the interpretation open-ended, the portraits invited the audience to ponder their own perceptions of familial ties and the complexity that comes with it. The project served as a reflection of our shared journey, celebrating the bond we hold while recognizing the individuality that sets us apart.

Father and son is inspired by the song “Father and Son” by commonly known musician Cat Stevens.

The father's views reflect a sense of wisdom, experience, and a desire to protect his son from the hardships and challenges he has encountered. He advises the son to take his time, make careful decisions, and not to rush into life's uncertainties.
On the other hand, the son's views reveal a longing for independence and the need to follow his own path, even if it means leaving behind the comfort and guidance of his father. He feels the weight of expectations and yearns to explore the world on his own terms, seeking his own identity and purpose.
Throughout the song, there is an underlying theme of love and respect between the two characters, even though their viewpoints differ significantly. Despite the generation gap and contrasting perspectives, they both understand the importance of staying true to themselves and finding their own destinies.
